Celebrating 1 Year of Business!

This week I am celebrating one full year of owning and operating On A Good Note!

This year has flown by! It has been a crazy, but successful ride! Here’s how On A Good Note came to be…

If I’m going to be completely honest, I had no intention of starting a business this early in my career. I knew it was something I wanted to do eventually, but I didn’t think I had the resources or ability to do so. When I moved to Lincoln, there was only one music therapy position available in the area and it was only 4-hours a week. I quickly snatched up that position, but 4-hours a week doesn’t pay the bills. I soon contacted the only other music therapist in the area to see if she had any ideas about other facilities that might be looking for a music therapist… it turns out, she was looking to hire a contractor! For tax, liability, and banking purposes, the thing that made most sense was starting my own business.

I had NO IDEA where to start! I had never owned a business or taken a business class! However, I had a few resources I could tap into! My parents own two successful business and have proved to be an invaluable resource through every part of this journey. Their advice along with some reading and internet browsing lead me in the right direction! Within a week, I had a business name, had filed all the appropriate paperwork, opened a business account, and was on my way!

Since that fateful week one year ago my business has grown by leaps and bounds! I currently have two companies I contract for (with a third starting in June!), a few students I teach in my home, and am recording new music almost every week!

It has been a fabulous year! I could not have gotten this far without the support of my family, my loved ones, and my friends! Thank you all for everything you have done and for all you continue to do! I am looking forward to another splendid year of business!
