Music Therapy Week Part 2 – Resource Sharing

As part of music therapy week here in Illinois, IAMT collected some favorite resources from music therapists across the state and is sharing one each day.  Resource sharing is an essential part of the music therapy field so I thought I would share the 4 resources Rachel Rilinger from IAMT has shared this week. I will post of remainder of this week’s resources on Monday as a way to wrap up music therapy week.

Resource #1 – TAPPING, SHAKING, MUSIC MAKING

“Our first resource comes with a discount!  Illinois’ own Rachel Rambach owner and MT-BC at Music Therapy Connections is offering a 25% discount on her songbook “Tapping, Shaking, Music Making”. Get your copy today for only $9! Visit the following link and enter the discount code MTWeek at checkout.”

Resource #2 – OnSong

“This was the most popular resource MT’s submitted. The OnSong iPad app.  $9.99 in the iTunes store. This app is a music therapist’s dream.  Instead of lugging around binders of music, you can upload lead sheets directly from an online resource or from your own computer. With a touch you can transpose, highlight chords, import songs from your online sources, play music from your iPod library, play a click track to a metronome AND set a tempo that allows you to play WHILE the lead sheet scrolls for you! If you have an iPad, we HIGHLY recommend giving this one a try.”

Resource #3 – Speech Resources!

“Many MT-BC’s in Illinois work on speech goals with clients of all ages.  We’ve decided to include several website resources that both MT’s and SLP’s utilize in their practice that may be beneficial to you and your clients.
Phonology & Articulation Resources for Speech-Language Pathologists: worksheets, handouts, pictures and words. Words are organized by different phonemes and CV combinations. Pictures are included to assist with word retrieval as well as exercises or “tricks” for targeting different speech sounds.

Assessment of Speech: Sound Production http://state.tn.us/education/speced/doc/71309SLIART.pdf

Phonetics. Gives a visual diagram representing the oral motor mechanisms and process for articulation of different speech sounds. Includes exercises for you to test your knowledge.  Drag mouse over parts of the mouth to see how air flow and oral motor movement are used to produce sounds. http://www.ic.arizona.edu/~lsp/Phonetics.html “

Resource # 4 – PubMed.gov

“We all know how important evidence-based research is to our practice and growth as a profession. One great resource for finding reliable clinical research is PubMed.gov.  PubMed is a free database accessing the MEDLINE database of citations, abstracts and full text articles on life sciences and biomedical topics. Registration is free and can help you build your knowledge base as well as provide easy access to research that can help educate our clients and facilities on the many benefits of music therapy. ”
